Black History Month: Elijah McCoy
by Eugene Armstead on Feb.21, 2010, under Black History Month Project
FOX21 News Highlights Black History month today with a look at Elija McCoy. In the early 1900′s McCoy rose to heroic status in the African-American community by holding more patents than any other black inventor up to that time. We have McCoy to thank for things like the lawn sprinkler and the folding ironing board, but most of his work related to steam-engines. One of his invetions in this field became very popular and widely copied, but many railroad engineers knew quality when they saw it, and insisted their engines be fitted with “the real McCoy.” For more on Black History month visit our website www.coloradoconnection.com.
